Their compelling combination of spirited string band numbers and classic song repertoire is a formula well-suited for entertaining crowds at dances, fiddlers' conventions, and concerts throughout the region - and it doesn’t take long to understand why they are the perennial favorite of so many locals. With Chris Prillaman’s powerfully syncopated fiddling, Jason Hambrick’s soaring vocals and thundering guitar runs, and Jared Boyd’s ever tasteful banjo work, all anchored by Stacy Boyd’s impeccable groove on the bass, Twin Creeks Stringband embodies an ideal confluence of the best of Southwest Virginia’s musical traditions. The Twin Creeks Stringband plays hard driving Southwest Virginia old time music the way it’s supposed to be played - if you love great traditional music delivered with soul then you will love this recording! Staff Review: Released in early 2020, Lee Highway Blues is absolutely one of my favorite old time albums of the past decade! The Twin Creeks Stringband is rooted in the musical traditions of Southwest Virginia, yet they have a sound like no other. Music has been in each of the band members' families for generations, and it shows! Chris Prillaman's hard-driving fiddle playing provides powerful and direct tone, danceable syncopated rhythms, and zero fluff. One of the most promising young talents of the region, Jared Boyd has won numerous awards for his clawhammer banjo playing, including 1st place at the Old Fiddlers' Convention in Galax, VA , and he does a fine job of matching Chris's fiddling. Stacy Boyd's bass playing is as solid as a rock and just as certain as the sun will rise! Holding down the guitar is Jason Hambrick, who also provides vocals on a few numbers. If I could sing like anyone, I'd choose to sing like Jason - he can paint it bluegrass and he can paint it old time but no matter what you call it, you know it's gonna be good and lonesome! For this album I'd say he's found that beautiful sweet spot between the two genres. Twin Creeks Stringband is a favorite with dancers throughout Southwest Virginia and for good reason! If you love delightfully driving and deliciously danceable old time music, then you owe it to yourself to check these guys out! - Ashlee
